Digital wireless coverage to reach 90 per cent of New Brunswickers with Aliant’s $19 million investment
New Brunswick —
Aliant, Atlantic Canada’s leading information and communications technology provider, today announced further expansion of digital wireless coverage in New Brunswick.
“We’re pleased to provide our customers with expanded digital wireless coverage as part of our overall network expansion and enhancement program in New Brunswick,” said Chuck Hartlen, Vice-President, Customer Services and Mobility. “The investment announced today is part of our on-going commitment to providing our customers with a high quality, reliable, digital wireless network.”
With the recent completion of network expansion and enhancements in McAdam, Harvey and Coburn, customers in these areas can now access Aliant’s world-class digital wireless network. Upon completion of full network expansion and enhancements in New Brunswick by the end of 2005, 90 per cent of the population will be covered by Aliant's digital wireless network. Aliant will invest $19 million this year to expand and enhance the company’s wireless network and services offered in New Brunswick. By the end of the year Aliant will have spent more than $103 million building the digital wireless network in the province, which will bring the company’s overall wireless investment across Atlantic Canada since 1999 close to $350 million.
“More of our customers can now enjoy the many benefits of digital wireless as a result of expansion in McAdam, Harvey and Coburn. Customers traveling along the corridor of Route 4 between McAdam and Harvey will benefit from extensive digital coverage and access to enhanced services,” says Ron Forsythe, Regional Manager Central New Brunswick, Aliant.
This expansion will provide more customers with the ability to stay in touch with friends, family and co-workers as well as access to enhanced wireless features. Enhanced features on Aliant’s digital wireless network include text, video and picture messaging, and mobile browsing. Text messaging enables customers to send messages anywhere, anytime with no long distance or airtime minutes being used. Customers can also capture, save and send video clips and pictures instantly with video and picture messaging features. Mobile browsing provides customers with Internet access on their wireless device and enables them to access information and entertainment while on the go.
With digital wireless, customers may download screensavers and ringtones to customize their wireless device. In addition, customers enjoy faster Internet connection speeds for quicker downloads and access to e-mail and other information.
Aliant customers traveling in New Brunswick can use their cell phones and other wireless devices to access the most extensive digital wireless data network in Atlantic Canada to stay in touch and access business or personal information.
