Aliant supports Diversity Youth Forum in PEI
The Prince Edward Island Home and School Federation (PEISF) is very pleased that Aliant will be the official communications sponsor for the upcoming Island-wide Diversity Youth Forum for Grade 8 students in PEI.
The Canadian Heritage Multiculturalism Program, the Department of Education Diversity Education Standing Committee and the PEIHSF have partnered over this school year to plan this first-time event on the Island.
One-day Forums will be held on May 3 in Lennox Island First Nation, May 4 at the UPEI Field House and May 5 at the Georgetown Playhouse and Arena where over 1,700 Grade 8 students and their social studies teachers will meet to discuss diversity. A wide variety of guest speakers will present to the children, including Gary Beals of Canadian Idol fame.
"This is a very unique experience for our Grade 8 students," says Martha Ellis, President PEI Home and School Federation. "They will learn that our neighbours are diverse and ever-changing. We are very pleased that Aliant is supporting our Multicultural Food Fair while providing on-site communication."
"Aliant is pleased to support the PEISF and their Diversity Youth Forum because they are proactively educating children about how we can celebrate and appreciate the differences among people in our communities," explained Keith Lambe, regional manager for PEI, Aliant. "The lessons these children learn at the Youth Diversity Forum will help them develop into healthy adults in both mind and spirit and further support our region's growth as a multicultural society."
